This December, Merry Vertmas introduces a new kind of running challenge
Forget the advent calendar. Spice up your countdown to Christmas with a vertical running challenge. Merry Vertmas is sure to end this crazy year with a bang, as runners attempt to bag as much vertical gain between December 1 and December 25 as they possibly can.
Participants may choose from two options: Vert Is Real or Virtual Vert.
Those looking to run outside for the duration of the challenge should opt for the Vert Is Real. If you would like to split your time between the treadmill and the trail, go with the Virtual Vert.
Pick Your Level
Participants may choose their vertical goal, with 10 different levels ranging from 10,000 feet of elevation gain (AKA the Steep Squad) to the 300,000-foot Steep is Life level.
To put into context how much vertical climbing this entails: the Steep Squad goal of 10,000 feet requires participants to rack up about 400 feet of climbing each day during the 25-day window. The highest honor, the Steep Is Life level requires 12,000 feet of elevation gain each day!
RamDeer Games offer runners additional opportunities to win sweet swag from event sponsors: Salomon, goodr, KogallaRA, Squirrels Nut Butter and Run Steep Get High. During this period, participants are eligible to attempt additional side challenges such as one hour of vertical climbing or sharing a summit selfie on social media. Mark your calendars for your favorite challenges, as each challenge is only open for only a short period of time.
