Running out of the dark: The ultimate running media guru Bryon Powell of iRunFar sheds light on his favorite trail running headlamps.
Running ultra marathons (26 miles or more) of tough trail terrain means you often keep going when the sun goes down. But even if you’re just out and about and you start losing light, and headlamps can be lifesavers.
Powell shows us a few of his go tos:
For long outings where he may run into and/or through the night, or any other circumstance where bright, long lasting light is required, he likes the Petzl Nau headlamp. At 750 lumens, it’s bright enough for challenge. For a simple emergency light that disappears in his pack, he chooses the minimalist Petzl e-lite Plus. Weighing in at less than one ounce, it still comes with a whistle on its drawstring headband.
Find one that works for you and you’ll never be left out in the dark.
